Amba Villas, Mysore, india
3 or 4 hours' drive later, got to the palace. Disappointing after all the hype and after seeing the ancient temples and fortifications on the way.
Built in 1897 for the Maharaja to live in, a cross between Paddington Station, and the palaces of Alexander and Buckingham it was quite disgustingly opulent. Marble; gilts; stained glass etc etc ... and with hideous poverty outside its walls.
Was not that impressed and won't go back in a hurry. Had a few old temples within the quad -- so a redeeming feature at least. Temples reminded me of those we saw in Cambodia a few weeks ago -- Joss needs to write about those still & put the pix up! HINT
